The Director ensures that counseling services are mission-aligned, clinically appropriate, spiritually sensitive, and responsive to the changing needs of those served. The position also provides regular reporting on program performance, team stability, service utilization, outcomes, challenges, and opportunities for growth.

Purpose

The Counseling and Healing ministries support the mission of Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma, “To be Christ’s merciful love to those who suffer,” by listening with the heart and guiding those who suffer emotional and spiritual distress to improved health and restored dignity.

  • As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, both professional and personal conduct must align with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church
  • Pray daily for the needs of the poor through personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration
  • Be willing to learn and apply Catholic teaching in your role
  • Help foster a shared culture of ministry across program operations and management

Leadership

  • Establish clear expectations for performance, professional conduct, documentation, communication, and service delivery
  • Promote a collaborative, healthy, accountable, and mission-centered team culture
  • Identify staffing needs and implement strategies to improve retention, engagement, and long-term team stability
  • Address performance concerns and support corrective action when necessary

Development of a Catholic Counseling Network

  • Develop and maintain a strong local and regional network of qualified Catholic counselors and mental health professionals
  • Build relationships with parishes, schools, ministries, universities, healthcare providers, and other community partners
  • Identify counselors who demonstrate clinical competence and an understanding of, or willingness to work within, the organization’s Catholic mission and values
  • Create opportunities for networking, collaboration, referral relationships, and shared learning
  • Develop and maintain a reliable referral network to ensure individuals and families can access appropriate specialized services when needed

Ongoing Formation and Professional Development

  • Create and implement an ongoing formation program for counselors and healing ministry team members
  • Provide formation that integrates professional clinical practice with the organization’s Catholic identity, mission, values, and approach to care
  • Coordinate training, workshops, case consultation, guest speakers, retreats, and other professional and spiritual development opportunities for the network of Catholic Counselors
  • Ensure team members remain current on applicable professional standards, ethical requirements, best practices, and organizational policies
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, reflection, and professional growth

Dynamic Delivery of Counseling Services

  • Design, implement, and continually improve a flexible and responsive model for counseling services
  • Ensure services are accessible and responsive to the needs of individuals, families, caregivers, staff, and other populations served by the organization
  • Develop systems for intake, assessment, referral, scheduling, follow-up, documentation, and continuity of care
  • Evaluate service delivery methods and recommend improvements based on utilization, outcomes, feedback, and emerging community needs
  • Explore appropriate delivery formats, including individual counseling, family counseling, group services, workshops, educational programming, and community-based support
  • Establish satellite offices within parishes for counseling services
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership and other departments to integrate mental health services into the broader continuum of care
  • Oversee clinical risk-management practices, including referral and escalation procedures, crisis and emergency protocols, care coordination, scope-of-service boundaries, and other safeguards that support safe, ethical, and clinically appropriate counseling services
