JOB PURPOSE

To manage the flow of information between Lilongwe City Council, the media, the public, and other stakeholders. The position involves developing and implementing communication strategies, managing media relations, producing information materials, and managing LCC’s public image to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in Council service delivery.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Planning and hosting press conferences and media briefings to announce major news or address crises.

• Preparing press releases, speeches, articles, social media posts, and other materials for public consumption.

• Developing strategies and procedures for working effectively with the media.

• Maintaining good working relationships with media organizations.

• Working with various teams within the Council to organize and host public events and promotions.

• Planning and executing public engagement events such as public meetings and town hall discussions to engage residents and other stakeholders.

• Responding to inquiries and concerns from residents and stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
