Job Description
Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a Mechanical Planner.
The Electrical Planner is a key contributor to minimizing equipment downtime, optimizing life-cycle costs, and enhancing equipment reliability and availability to maximize production performance.
The role supports the Planning Superintendent or designated delegate in developing, coordinating, and maintaining effective maintenance plans, schedules, and resource requirements. The Mechanical Planner ensures that the right mechanical work is identified, properly scoped, adequately resourced, and scheduled at the right time, enabling technicians to execute maintenance safely and efficiently while minimizing unnecessary production losses.
A key responsibility of the role is to maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date maintenance data within the CMMS, supporting effective maintenance planning, execution, reporting, and decision-making.
The Mechanical Planner works closely with the Planning Coordinator, Mechanical Superintendent, Mechanical Supervisors, Reliability, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Maintenance teams to ensure effective coordination and execution of maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
Management of Safety, Environment, & Community Relations
- Comply with the Company’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management System, site procedures, and all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate a strong duty of care and actively promote a positive safety culture by leading by example and encouraging safe work practices among employees, contractors, and other personnel.
- Maintain a safe working environment within the area of responsibility and actively identify, communicate, and address potential hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Participate in departmental safety meetings, toolbox meetings, incident reporting, and investigations as required.
- Conduct and participate in formal and informal risk assessments, ensuring identified risks and controls are appropriately addressed before work is undertaken.
- Operate vehicles, mobile equipment, and plant only when appropriately trained, competent, and authorized in accordance with Company requirements.
- Promote safety awareness among maintenance and processing personnel and support initiatives that continuously improve HSE performance.
- Lost Time Injury (LTI) performance – Target: Zero LTIs within the Maintenance Department.
People Management
- ·Build and maintain positive, professional working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders, supporting effective teamwork, communication, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrate integrity, respect, initiative, and accountability in all workplace interactions and responsibilities.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, taking directions from the Supervisor or designated delegate while maintaining ownership of assigned responsibilities.

Operations
- Support the Planning Superintendent and Planning Coordinator in establishing and maintaining effective maintenance planning and reliability processes to improve equipment reliability and achieve targeted maintenance KPIs.
- Review approved work requests and create, update, and maintain work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring appropriate job plans, task lists, work scopes, job steps, labor requirements, materials, and estimated durations are included, and that work orders are fully planned before scheduling.
- Participate in developing and maintaining detailed mechanical maintenance plans covering preventive, predictive, corrective, breakdown, statutory, and shutdown maintenance activities.· Prioritize maintenance work based on safety, production criticality, equipment condition, and available resources.
- Coordinate with Mechanical Supervisors, Technicians, Operations, Stores, Procurement, Engineering, Reliability, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure maintenance activities are properly planned and execution ready.
- Ensure the availability of required spare parts, tools, materials, specialist services, equipment, and other resources prior to scheduled maintenance activities.
- Monitor and track work-order progress, ensuring timely completion, accurate status updates, and effective communication of planning or execution constraints.
